The Muslim Mind: Embracing Inclusion in Today's Classroom
This workshop began in March, 2013 at the University of Ottawa as a session which would answer teacher candidate questions regarding Muslim students in the classroom. Since then, it has been presented at the University of Calgary as well (see story below) and will also be a part of the Ottawa U Teaching Choices Symposium in February 2014.
Blurb about the Seminar:
Inclusion is no longer a philosophy or a buzzword, but a classroom reality. The focus of this workshop is to discuss some of the Muslim sensitivities that exist in our diverse classrooms, and how teachers can better prepare themselves to accommodate the needs of Muslim students by having a proper understanding of the Muslim Mind. How do the core beliefs of Islam affect students? How do you deal with Muslim parents? What can and can't Muslim students do? How can we distinguish between the religion and culture? Chances are, you will have Muslim students in your classroom so time will be allocated for a question and answer period to answer your specific questions about understanding and accommodating Muslim sensitivities!
